Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 July 2026
Overview
HitTheRoad ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We collect the minimum needed to make the app work and never sell your data.
What we collect
- Account data: email address and a unique user ID, used to authenticate you and associate your trips with your account.
- Profile data (optional): name and profile photo if you choose to add them.
- Trip data: the trips you generate (start and end points, dates, preferences, generated routes and stops). Stored so you can revisit them.
- Travel taste profile: if you use the optional swipe sessions, your answers are condensed into a preference profile used only to personalise your itineraries.
- Home base (optional): an approximate, city-level home location you set to receive weekend route suggestions — never your exact address.
- Check-in photos (optional): photos you attach to trip check-ins, shown in your roadbook and on recap images you choose to generate.
- Travel documents (optional, Pro): booking confirmations you attach to a trip so the AI assistant can read them and answer questions about them.
- Purchase data: records of in-app credit purchases and Pro subscription status (product, transaction id, timestamp), used to grant credits and unlock Pro features.
- Product analytics: in-app events (e.g. a screen opened, a trip generated) tied to your account, plus a random device identifier created before sign-in to measure the sign-up funnel. Not an advertising identifier, never shared with ad networks.
- Push notification token: only if you enable notifications, used solely to deliver them.
- Guest accounts: you can try the app (and the web trip generator) without registering — we then create an anonymous account with no email. It becomes part of your account if you sign up, and is treated as abandoned if you don't.
- Diagnostic data: anonymous crash reports and error logs via Sentry to help us fix bugs. No personal content is included.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not track your location in the background. Your device location is used only when you tap the locate button, to pre-fill a starting point or set your home base.
- We do not collect contacts, microphone, or camera content beyond the profile picture and check-in photos you explicitly choose to upload.
- We do not run advertising trackers or share data with advertisers.
- We do not sell your data, ever.
How your data is used
- To authenticate you and keep your trips associated with your account.
- To generate trip plans using AI providers (see below). Your prompt is sent to the AI provider only to produce that trip and is not retained for training by us.
- To process in-app purchases and grant the corresponding credits.
- To personalise your itineraries with the preferences and taste profile you build.
- To send push notifications you have enabled — each category can be turned off in the app.
- To send occasional product update emails to registered users; every email has an unsubscribe link.
- To diagnose and fix crashes and errors.
Sharing and public trips
If you share a trip link, anyone with the link can view that trip's itinerary on our website. If you publish a trip to the community, it appears on our public pages with the route shown at city-level precision. You can stop sharing at any time in the app. Trip companions you invite can view the trip and contribute reactions and stop proposals.
